Julian

Julian followed his sister, Joanne to the club at Scunthorpe when he was 8 years old and loved it. A lifetime in running started after those first few laps. School and club races in the early years came along with wins in Humberside, Northern and Eastern Counties Championships.

Progression was then made in to Senior Internationals with England and Great Britain on the Track (indoors and outdoors), Road and Cross Country. There were also wins at the Midland Counties Championships (Cross Country) a top 6 place in the National Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill, two top 50 finishes at the World Cross Country Championships for team GB and leading European team in the World Road Relay Championships in Brazil.  Julian was also a winner with his former club Birchfield Harriers at the National Cross Country Relays in Mansfield and the National 6 stage Road Relays. On a first and very rare run out at the half marathon distance Julian won the Intercounties Championships in 66.20. Personal Bests on the track hit 3000m in 7’53 and a 13’42 5000m. In 2012 Julian ran the Lake Garda Marathon with some friends of the shop and finished 3rd in 2’39.

Julian now provides advice and coaching to a number of runners locally.

Cheryl

Cheryl began competitive running at school, then competed for Scunthorpe & District AC at county level at cross country. After a number of years supporting and spectating (Julian) she played hockey and only returned back to running in local events 5 years ago.

Cheryl ran the Manchester Marathon in 2018 and has competed in a number of duathlons in 2019 – culminating in the Descente London Duathlon in Richmond Park.

Ruth

Ruth entered her first running event at the age of 8 years old and competed regularly for South Yorkshire Schools and Rotherham Harriers. After a couple of decades away from competitive running to bring up a family and for work, Ruth returned to competitive running again and later to duathlon.

At the age of 40 Ruth was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and with her usual grit and determination embarked on a remarkable return to peak form and went on to compete in World and European Age Group competitions.

Ruth’s proudest achievements to date are winning a European Age Group Bronze Medal in 2015 and being part of the David Weir Dream Team for a triathlon held at Eton Dorney in Berkshire.

Louise

Louise began her sporting journey when she was at Primary school where she was the only girl playing for the school football team. Back then a very rare occurrence, decades before today’s game where millions of fans watched the England lionesses win the European cup.

Louise took a break from football and reached Black belt 3rd Dan in Tae kwon do (Korean martial art) claiming the British title on numerous occasions and representing GB in Europe.

On her return to football at age 20 Louise went on to represent in regional championships and played for Doncaster Belles, Liverpool and Everton.

After retiring from the game Louise found a new passion of cycling whilst living in Spain, which led to numerous wins, local regional and across the continent. One of her best and most memorable results in the U.K. was finishing 1st overall female at the 2017 tour of Cambridge. Representing GB at the UCI World champs in France the same year (a top 20 place) and followed this up a year later with an age group 8th place in the UCI World championships in Italy.

On returning to the UK in 2019 Louise needed a new challenge and took up triathlon and duathlon. She quickly moved on from wins in sprint triathlon and duathlon to half Ironman distance. Her most recent achievements in 2022/23, claiming 2nd in her age group at Ironman Staffordshire and Outlaw Half Nottingham. In 2023 Louise won her age group at the Retford half marathon before going on to the 70.3 Ironman World Championship in Finland.

Don’t be surprised if Lou wants to talk all things training as she has a passion for anything to do with sport.

Apart from all things sport Louise also dabbles in art and design, apart from selling numerous paintings, she has used her design skills to help develop numerous businesses.

Customer Reviews

One of the best running shops in the area. I travel from Doncaster about 10 miles away to use their services. They are simply the best and put you on a treadmill to see how you run and then find some shoes till you get your perfect ones. Been coming here for about 8 years. Had one issue with a pair of shoes when I got home they just wasn't right but they resolved it straight away. Honestly wouldn't even think about going elsewhere as I trust these guys and I can do some serious miles when running so need proper trainers.
